About this site

Hey, Horny Toad! is an independent educational website and is personally funded, ad-free, and not operated for profit. It is not presented as a registered charity. Donation suggestions lead to independent organizations; this site does not collect donations.

Privacy and getting in touch

No account is needed for the articles or game. The site does not add advertising trackers. Hosting and email providers may process technical information, such as IP addresses and request details, to operate and protect their services.

The contact form sends your email address, selected topic and message through Resend’s email service to the site owner’s Gmail inbox. That information is used to reply, not to add you to a marketing list. Your message will not be published as a reader story without permission.

Please avoid sending sensitive personal information or precise wildlife locations. Children should ask a parent or teacher to get in touch. For privacy questions or a request to delete correspondence, use Contact us.

The form uses a temporary session cookie for security. Sending-limit records contain hashed IP and email identifiers and timestamps, not message text; entries expire after 24 hours and are removed on subsequent submissions. Correspondence stays in the owner’s inbox until deleted. GoDaddy hosts the site, Resend handles message delivery, and Google provides the receiving inbox. These providers process delivery and technical information under their own privacy policies. The form does not load Google reCAPTCHA or advertising scripts.

Accessibility

The aim is a site that kids and adults can use with different devices and abilities. Work is guided by WCAG 2.2, Level AA.

The site includes keyboard navigation, image descriptions, written anatomy explanations, and optional untimed text-assisted play in the game. Accessibility review is ongoing; a full screen-reader and conformance evaluation has not been completed.

If something gets in your way, contact us with the page address and what you were trying to do. You can request the information in another format. Please share only the device or assistive-technology details you are comfortable providing.

For classrooms and other educational use

Teachers, students, libraries, and other noncommercial educational users may copy or adapt this site’s original articles and illustrations, to the extent the site owns the necessary rights. Please credit “Hey, Horny Toad!” and link to the original page. Keep existing credits and identify any changes you make.

This permission excludes personal photographs, third-party photos and maps, quoted material, and other organizations’ logos. Follow the credit and license beside each of those materials. Some are already available under open licenses or in the public domain. This policy does not restrict uses independently permitted by law.

Some illustrations were created with AI assistance. No exclusive copyright is claimed over material that is not eligible for copyright protection.

Our name and logo

You may use the site’s name and any official site logo unchanged to identify or link to this resource in noncommercial educational material. Please don’t imply sponsorship or endorsement, use it as your own brand, or put it on merchandise without permission. Third-party organization logos remain subject to their owners’ rights.

AI discovery

AI tools are welcome to help readers find the site and point them to its sources. The AI reading guide lists the pages and their subjects. When referring to this site, please credit Hey, Horny Toad! and link to the relevant page.

Our AI-use permission page explains permission for search, retrieval, and summaries of original public text. It does not authorize access to private content or override individual source licenses.

Sources and wildlife guidance

Articles link to wildlife agencies, research, and conservation organizations. Report dates matter, and a historical range map is not a current sightings survey. Please send corrections through Contact us.

The site offers general education. For an injured animal or a situation requiring hands-on advice, contact a qualified wildlife professional. External websites and donation services have their own policies.
